It has been fabulous this week celebrating our class birthdays! The children have immersed themselves into the provision – making cards, gifts and cakes. The children had a wonderful time enjoying a class party together, playing party games and finishing with a big rendition of Happy Birthday to You!
We have had lots of rainy days this week and we love learning outside. Again the forecast looks rainy for next week as well. Please ensure that your child has a pair of wellies in school and also some spare socks in case theirs gets a bit soggy! We do have waterproof suits that the children can wear but if you would like to send in waterproof trousers and coats that would be great. Please ensure that everything is named!
Please Help!
If you have any old children’s umbrellas that you are able to donate we would love to have them for our outdoor area.
Also plastic containers such as margarine or ice cream tubs so that the children can make boats would be great, and other junk modelling materials (small boxes, kitchen roll tubes) that we can put in our creative areas would be amazing.
Thank you

This week’s Makaton sign of the week is ‘To Learn.’ We are learning one new sign every week.
Ask your child to show you this week’s sign and other family members. Can they make a video clip for Tapestry like the stars on the Makaton website? We can not wait to share them in class.

Next week we will be reading Owl Babies by Martin Waddell together and immersing ourselves into the story of Sarah, Percy and Bill. We will be finding out interesting facts about owls and other nocturnal animals.
In phonics we will be learning the digraphs air (chair), er (boxer), plus the double letters – bb, rr, gg, dd, pp, ff, tt. These are also digraphs (two letters, making one sound). Next week we will be using the ‘chunking up’ method when we are sound talking and reading words with more than one syllable. Instead of trying to blend a long word sound-by-sound from left to right, we will teach the children to break the word into smaller, manageable parts (chunks) or syllables, blend each chunk, and then put them together.
In our number time the children will be comparing quantities and using the mathematical vocabulary more than, fewer than and equal to when looking at groups of objects.
