RE
Intent
The lessons will provide a high quality, coherent and progressive experience of the subject, through the lenses of theology, philosophy and human/social science. Children are taught about many different religions, with a weighting of 50% of RE learning to be about Christianity and the remaining 50% a variety of other religions, such as Judaism, Sikhism, Islam and Hinduism. These key religions are revised throughout the years with concepts, features, and ideas being built upon. The curriculum allows children to learn about a variety of different religions and to learn about people who have different beliefs to themselves. Children should be challenged to compare key aspects of the religions that they have learnt. The activities planned for R.E are enjoyable and are aimed to relate the beliefs of others to the beliefs that they hold themselves.
Implementation
Through careful planning, teaching and assessment teachers support pupils to build knowledge about different religions. Pupils are encouraged to voice their own opinions respectfully, as well as reflect on knowledge learnt in RE in their written work, through class discussion and pupil perceptions. Children are given as many first-hand experiences as possible, including looking at artifacts and having relevant visitors from a variety of religions. The curriculum is reviewed yearly and changes may be made to ensure links can be made to other curriculum areas. Teachers record summative assessment on pupil progress which is accessed by the subject leaders.
Impact
All pupils: The RE curriculum allows for children to have a good understanding of religions and the different beliefs that people hold, so that all children learn to be tolerant of others. All children will be more informed about their position in the world, and the decisions they can make impacting their future. All children will be able to talk confidently about their wellbeing, moral and cultural development for the society in which they live. Children will be able to voice their opinion respectfully and consider the opinions of people different from themselves.
DP: To make as much progress as the other children.
SEND: To have a clear understanding of the main objective from each lesson to build up an understanding of a range of beliefs and understanding of people different to themselves.
