Leave of Absence During Term Time

With effect from 19th August 2024 The Department for Education (DfE) has amended the regulations regarding term time holidays. Recent amendments to the regulations have removed all references to family holidays. The revised law does not give any entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. The amendments make clear that from September 2024, head teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances and the Headteacher must be satisfied that the circumstances warrant the granting of leave. Parents may be fined for taking their child on holiday during term time. We therefore must remind parents that any absence during school time loses valuable teaching and learning time and that parents must book holidays within recognised school holiday periods. If there are exceptional circumstances where you require a leave of absence for your child from school you can complete the form below. The form will need to be accompanied by a letter from the parents of the child explaining the reason for the absence.
