Implementation
We follow a fully comprehensive PSHE programme called Jigsaw. The six thematic units are taught in a spiral curriculum, which enables children to recall and build upon prior learning.
There are 6 puzzles in Jigsaw that are designed to progress in sequence from September -July. The puzzle pieces are:-
- Autumn 1- Being me in my World
- Autumn 2- Celebrating Difference (including anti-bullying)
- Spring 1- Dreams and Goals
- Spring 2- Healthy Me
- Summer 1- Relationships
- Summer 2- Changing Me (including sex education- see SRE policy)
Our PSHE teaching is delivered in a safe, open and positive learning environment based on trusting relationships between all members of the class. To enable this ground rules are agreed and reinforced in every lesson. Each lesson has a set structure.
- Improve their social skills to better enable collaborative learning (Connect us)
- Prepare them for learning (Calm me)
- Help the brain to focus on specific learning intentions (Open my mind)
- Initiate new learning (Tell me or show me)
- Facilitate learning activities to reinforce the new learning (Let me learn)
- Support them in reflecting on their learning and personal development (Help me reflect)
The Jigsaw Circle allows children and adults together to feel equal and valued so that they can share ideas, thoughts and feelings.
Lessons are sometimes recorded in class floorbooks or topic books.
PSHE is also addressed through assemblies and The Children’s Health Project. Many curriculum subjects make a link to PSHE, British Values and SMSC. Additionally pupils are encouraged to show leadership in their community through the School Council, Eco Council, E-safety Committee, Health Busters, Librarians, Playleaders and Mini Middays.

All children will:

- know strategies in order to have a good understanding of their mental health.
- feel confident to share their worries.
