This week we have been scientists and we have been amazing! The children absolutely loved being curious about all the different experiments and were so excited and engaged in the Science Assembly!
We are so impressed with the children’s progress in phonics and they have been busy spotting digraphs and trigraphs in words and ‘chunking up’ longer words.
In handwriting we have been busy forming the next ‘Curly’ letters d and g.
In maths, we have been learning about sorting objects in different ways. They have loved applying new skills into their own learning and pretending to be the teacher.
A reminder that children need to bring in their Little Wandle books and reading records everyday. Please only put your child’s reading folder in the box outside the classroom if they need their book changing.
SCS after school clubs
Please look out for a poster in your class windows with a QR code to sign up to football and multi-skills for Reception children.

Jigsaw Jeni has been teaching us to be healthy this half term… we have been moving more (playing games such as the Beans game and parachute time), we have been learning about healthy eating and this week why it is important to brush our teeth.
How do you keep healthy at home? Do you go to any clubs? Or take part in a junior park run? Maybe you help cook the dinner or you’d like to show your friends how you brush your teeth. Upload a photo, video or a drawing to talk about with your friends.
We can not wait to hear about your healthy habits at home.
Next week we are going to be learning about Doctors and Nurses. In PE we will be developing our gymnastic skills and in Jigsaw time talking about the importance of sleep.
In phonics we are going to be reading longer words that end in -s and -es. For example chairs and fishes. We will continue to use the chunking up method to help us with these longer words.
We will be showing off our writing skills by independently writing short sentences. Spelling words using the sounds that we know and remembering a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop.
In maths the children will be given further opportunities to hear, and join in with, counts beyond 20. We will be looking at the pattern of counting numbers beyond 20, e.g. by pausing and giving children time to anticipate the repeating pattern by saying, ‘twenty, twenty… ONE, twenty-TWO…’
In art the children will be taught how to use water colours. They will have their own palette and will be using the lid to mix colours. We will be using white to make colours lighter. They will also be taught how to wipe their paint brush and keep their palette clean.
