Our Learning This Week

Another super week learning about the story Lost and Found for the reception children.

We have been concentrating hard in our phonics lessons learning the new digraphs oo, oo, ar and or. The children are becoming more confident at looking for digraphs in words, we will continue to work on this so that it becomes automatic.

We have learnt to write the letters l and i correctly using the Little Wandle rhymes.

l Down the lollipop stick.

i Down the iguana and dot the leaf.

In our writing sessions we are now writing a small caption and children are encouraged to segment the sounds in the words to spell them correctly.

In our PE sessions we are now working on our gymnastic skills. Mr Godden has been very impressed with how well the children are listening to and following the instructions. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school – this includes a white t-shirt, blue shorts, a tracksuit and trainers. Thank you.

Tapestry

We have been scientists at school this week exploring floating and sinking. We learnt about our school science helpers… We made predictions with Pippa Predict, used the words floating and sinking with Victor Vocab and completed the experiment with Mollie Method.

At home, have a go at completing your own floating and sinking experiment. Choose 4 objects from your home, make a prediction and complete the test. We can not wait to hear what you find out.

Upcoming Learning

Next week we will be celebrating our class puppets/teddy’s 5th birthday. This is a very exciting week and we will be making it really special for them. We will be planning a party, making gifts, writing cards and invitations, finishing with a party at the end of the week.

In phonics we will be learning the digraphs ur (surf), ow (town), oi (soil), and a new trigraph ear (beard). We will be continuing to segment sounds in words to help us spell them when writing. Our handwriting focus letters will be u and t.

In our number time the children will continue to learn about the pairs of numbers that make 5, and then we will begin to explore 6 and 7 as numbers that are composed of ‘5 and a bit more. To get ready for our learning next week you could practise singing the song 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/articles/z6qgscw
