This week we have immersed ourselves in the story of Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. The children have been learning facts about owls and other nocturnal animals, sketching pictures and creating their own owl baby scene.
In phonics we have now taught all of the sounds for the reception year. We are now focussing on consolidating these and beginning to read longer words. I am sure you will all agree what fantastic readers the children are becoming – we are very proud of them!
Today we have finished the week with a special creative day based on the film Rio 2. The children have been singing and dancing, and finished the day by performing to the whole school. Our very own super stars!
Lunch boxes
We encourage healthy lunches for all of our children. Please could we ensure that there are no sweets (e.g. marshmallows, smarties, skittles) or popcorn in children’s lunch boxes.
Hot dinners are provided daily, please follow this link to see the 3 week menu and also a range of packed lunchbox ideas.
Thank you.

We are aware that Tapestry is currently not working. Please bear with us whilst we fix it.
This week please spend time reading and sharing books together. It would be great to see even more children move up the class book worms.
Next week we are making pine cone owls – please can every child bring a pine cone to school for this. Thank you.
We will be continuing our learning about Owl Babies and at the end of the week celebrating Julia Donaldson day and the story of Zog.
In phonics we will be reading longer words such as sunset and pocket, using the chunking up method. For example the children will decode s-u-n, and then s-e-t. They will then put the two chunks together to read the whole word.
This week in our number time, the children will continue to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are. The children will also revisit the concept of cardinality – the idea that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether. They will continue to be provided with opportunities to hear, join in with and develop their knowledge of the counting sequence and to become secure enough with their counting skills to be able to count out a set of objects from a larger set, remembering the ‘stopping number’ and knowing that this means they have selected the correct number.
