This week we have been learning about The Three Little Pigs. We have been brilliant at learning to tell the story using actions. I wonder if your child can show you?
The children have also been busy writing wanted posters. We are very impressed with how much their writing is improving.
In handwriting we practised another curly letter ‘q’. We became so good at saying the rhyme, around the queen’s face, down her robe and flick at the end.
In PE the children have started using balls. They have been busy using their hands to roll the ball with control. In our Jigsaw lessons we have started our new theme for this half term ‘relationships’. They have been talking about who is in their family and who lives with them, what jobs they do in their house to help and what rooms are in their homes.
In phonics we have been learning to read CVCC words. These words have 4 sounds in them and the vowel is the second sound, such as t-e-n-t, j-u-m-p, s-i-x-th and p-o-n-d. Our maths sessions will focus on how 5 is made, and how the numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 are 5 plus a bit more.

Can you retell your favourite part of the Three Little Pigs story? You might do a video of you retelling the story with the actions you have learnt in class or you might draw a picture of your favourite part of the story. You could even write a sentence about your favourite part!
Next week we will continue to learn about The Three Little Pigs. We will be ordering the story, writing key words and writing our own sentences. In handwriting we will be learning the next curly letter ‘e’. The rhyme the children will be encouraged to say while they form the letter is ‘around the elephant’s eye and curl round the trunk’.
Outside we will be busy taking part in tricky word hunts, aiming games, making repeating patterns and playing musical instruments.
In phonics we will be learning CVCC and CCVC words. The children will also be introduced to some more tricky words some, come, love and do.
In maths the children will review the composition of the numbers 6 to 9 using the 5 and a bit structure. 6 is made from 5 and 1, 5 and 1 makes 6. We will be looking at 10 and the children will be encouraged to see how finger patterns can be used to make 2 parts, for example if I hold both hands up and show 6 fingers, how many have I got down? 10 is made of 6 and 4, 6 and 4 makes 10.
