Reception Newsletter Friday 10th July

July 10, 2026

Our Learning This Week

We began the week by sharing the story of Billy’s Bucket. The children loved Billy’s imagination throughout the story and particularly the ending! We have had some wonderful ideas from the children this week of what would be inside their bucket – castles and dragons, unicorns and rainbows, a jungle full of tigers and a superhero world!
The children have enjoyed using songs and rhymes this week to rehearse their number facts to 10 and have also been consolidating their number bonds to 10 as part of their independent maths challenge.
We are very proud of all of the children this week for working hard to complete their final independent writing sample. The writing samples from across the year will be passed onto their new classes and be added to throughout year 1.
Thank you to everyone who made donations towards the summer fayre and also attended on Friday afternoon.

I am excited for…

We would like you to spend some time at home discussing the transition into year 1 using the above sentence starters. This gives you an opportunity at home to reflect as a family on this first year of school and also discuss what things you and your child are excited for in year 1. You can record these and share, however the main focus is to talk as a family so sharing is not necessary.

Upcoming Learning

The first year is almost over and we are so proud of all of our Primroses, Bluebells and Snowdrop children. In our final week, we will be continuing our daily phonics lessons, focusing on reviewing the taught sounds and words from the summer term. Our book of the week will be Commotion in the Ocean and we will be focusing on rhyming words. The children will complete different rhyming challenges throughout the week including matching and writing rhyming words.
In maths, we will be focusing on numbers recognition and ordering numbers. There is a different challenge for the children to complete each day.
We will be spending time reflecting on a year of amazing learning and discussing our favourite experiences whilst in reception.
