This week we have all been very excited to become detectives and search for our missing class toys. Our teachers shared the news with us on Monday and straight away we began to search for evidence around the classroom and in the garden. We recorded all the things we found on our special detective boards and worked hard to use all of our phonics knowledge to spell words and write simple sentences. We are pleased to announce all the toys have now been found safely! Well done, Reception.
In maths, we have been learning about the number 7. We have been learning that 7 is made of ‘5 and a bit (2)’ and have been creating different representations of 7 using the multi-link cubes. We know that there are 7 days in the week and have been using this to help us count to 7.
The living eggs have arrived in school and are being kept in the library. The children have all had the opportunity to visit the eggs this week and discuss what will happen in the next week. We hope to see the chicks hatching very soon and will keep you up to date with their progress.
We would still love to have a regular intake of cardboard and plastic recycling to use as part of our continuous provision and ready for science week. If you have any to donate it would be greatly appreciated. Please ensure all products are clean and none have had NUT based products in them.
A reminder that children need to bring in their Little Wandle books and reading records everyday.
SCS after school clubs
Please look out for a poster in your class windows with a QR code to sign up to multi-skills for Reception children. The children have completed taster sessions as part of their PE lessons this week.
Dates for your diaries

Monday 9th March – Science week begins
Friday 20th March – Red Nose Day

Our focus next week is Pets and Vets. We would like you to share pictures of your pets at home. Tell us their name (s), what type of animal they are and something special about them such as their favourite food, trick or where they come from. You can either record a short video or take a photo.
If you do not have a pet at home, we would love to hear what your favourite animal is and why. Draw a picture or record a video to share with us. It can be a domestic animal or something really exciting like a blue whale or gorilla!
Next week we will be focusing on the role of a vet. We will discuss what vets do and learn about the different types of vets there are within the community, such as farming vets and specialists. The children will have the opportunity to role-play what it is like to visit a Veterinary Practice and what different jobs there are, such as a veterinary nurse, receptionist and groomer.
On Thursday, we will be celebrating World Book Day. We will be turning our classrooms into a special place where the children can share stories throughout the day with their friends and teachers. We will be learning how to story map our own books like a real author and how illustrators create the images to go with the story.
In maths, we will focus on the composition of numbers to 10, focusing on how these numbers are made using two parts. We will focus on how two equal numbers can combine to make a whole number and be introduced to the concept of doubles.
