Year 1 Newsletter 13th March 2026

March 13, 2026

English

We will be exploring how to use and add labels to diagrams and pictures, discussing the direction of the labels and writing. We will link this to our work on the Wright Brothers first plane and label the different parts. We will then move on to learn about Amelia Earhart and will create our own ‘missing’ posters, using some of the facts we have learnt.

In phonics, we will be reviewing the following sounds in preparation for the phonics screening check:

e-e (ee) as in even

ew (oo/yoo) as in chew

ie (ee) as shield

aw (or) as in claw

We will also be practising the following tricky words:

house          mouse             water              want

Don’t forget to review the sounds and tricky words in the front of the reading records whenever you read with your child.
