Year 1 Newsletter 27th March 2026

March 27, 2026

English

We will be learning about non-fiction texts all about trees and plants. We will start by exploring different non-fiction books about trees and plants. Then we will have a go at drawing our own pictures and writing sentences that include facts to go alongside our drawings.

In phonics, we will be reviewing the following sounds in preparation for the phonics screening check:

ai  ay  a  a-e

ee  ea  e  e-e  ie

We will also be practising all of the tricky words that we have learnt this term.

Don’t forget to review the sounds and tricky words in the front of the reading records whenever you read with your child.

Maths

We will be moving onto a new topic about multiplication and division where we will be focusing on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will also be recognising equal groups ready to support the children’s understanding of multiplying and dividing.

Topic

In geography we will be identifying and sorting a range of human and physical features in our local area.

In RE we will be beginning to look at the Hindu story of creation and will be making links to other religions creation stories we have looked at previously.

In computing we will be using the computers to look at the keyboard and work on understanding what some of the different keys mean and where particular letters are. We will then practice typing our own name.

In DT we are going to be working towards making a healthy smoothie so we will be looking at different types of food to decide which are fruits and which are not and how we can tell which ones are fruits.
