We will be starting to write our very own newspapers all about The Great Fire of London!
We will begin by exploring real newspapers and their features and will then move on to learn about the 5 Ws (who, what, when, why and where). We will carefully plan our reports beginning with answering the 5ws in relation to the Great Fire. We will also think of exciting and catchy headlines to grab the readers attention. Towards the end of the week we will write our introductory paragraphs using noun phrases and adjectives to explain what was happening at the start of the fire.
Year 2 Open Door Morning
Tuesday 3rd February 2026 8:40am
Please come into your child’s class to see their amazing work so far this term!
We will continue our work on Money. We have worked really hard to count totals using our times tables and are now practising counting and adding mixed coins until we are confident. We will be selecting the correct coins and notes to make different amounts and will practise recording these correctly using the pound and pence sign.
Next week we are going to be comparing London from 1666 to London today. We will use paintings, maps and photographs to compare the city in these times and will also have fun looking on Google Earth and Streetview to see what London is like today. We will draw pictures and write captions to explain the similarities and differences between the two.
In Science we will be experimenting with materials. We will be designing our own boats carefully selecting appropriate materials and explaining why these would be best according to their properties.
In Geography we will be learning about directional language and simple maps to show and describe the route of the fire.
This week in MiniMe Mindfulness with Abbey we learnt about ‘Focus’ and how we cannot always control our thoughts and emotions but we can control our focus to help change the way that we feel.
