Year 2 Newsletter – 22nd June 2026

May 22, 2026

English

After half term, our new topic will be all about pirates and the seaside! We are going to begin by learning about the role of a pirate and what they were like in the past. We are going to do this by reading non-chronological reports and fact files and will unpick the texts. We will look for evidence within the text to answer comprehension questions, while also practising reading aloud with fluency and pace.

Maths

In Maths, we will be starting a new unit on ‘time’. We will begin by reminding ourselves of how to tell the time to the nearest hour on an anologue clock, before moving on to half past and quarter to/past times. We will be reading and showing these times on a clock. As a challenge, we will put this into practise by solving problems involving the passing of time. If your child has a watch at home and would like to wear this to school to help them develop their time telling skills then please feel free to do so!

Topic

We are going to have great fun learning all about pirates this term. We will learn about famous pirates from history and will have a go at comparing them.

In Science, we will be learning about why exercise is so important for humans and how it helps our bodies in different ways. In Geography, we are going to be exploring seasonal and daily weather patterns and will think carefully about the difference between weather and climate.

This week in MiniMe Mindfulness with Abbey we focused on Mindful Movement. We reminded ourselves how to move our bodies mindfully, noticing the benefits, such as strength, confidence and a present mind.

Homework

Well done for all of your hard work completing the given homework tasks each week. Over half term, we would love for you to enjoy reading books and spending time outside!
