We will be continuing with our newspaper reports all about The Great Fire of London.
We have written our introductory paragraphs and will now move on to adding more detail to explain what happened and what people were doing during the fire. We will use eye witness statements using speech marks and will learn about how to use these correctly.
Year 2 Open Door Morning
Tuesday 3rd February 2026 8:40am
Please come into your child’s class to see their amazing work so far this term!
We will completing lots of money challenges. We will continue to learn about how to make amounts in different ways and will even move on to working out the change needed by subtracting amounts.
We will play lots of money games to help consolidate our learning, including a fun ‘race to £1’ activity.
Next week we are lucky to be taking part in a Great Fire of London workshop with Mr Mortimer. We will act out different parts of the fire and even take part in a bucket chain to pretend we are putting out the fire.
In Science we will continue our experiment to find out what material would be best for a boat. We will test materials from our boat designs to test whether materials are waterproof and whether they will float or sink. We will also use words such as rigid, absorbent and strong to describe what is happening.
In Computing we will be looking at robot algorithms. We will create our own Beebot mats and will devise our own simple algorithms for a beebot. We will then add obstacles to challenge ourselves to create an alternative route.
This week in MiniMe Mindfulness with Abbey we focused on Fail Forward. We learnt that failure often holds the key to growth, resilience and learning. It enables us to learn and adapt and improve and also teaches us to grow. If we think of failure as a superpower we can take the positive as we continue to persevere, making us more resilient when things are challenging.
This week please complete Spring Term Workout 3 on pages 30 and 31. Please only complete this workout and do not rush ahead. Thank you!
