Year 2 Newsletter – Friday 13th February 2026

February 13, 2026

English

After half term we will be writing our own persuasive texts, trying to persuade someone to visit London. We will begin by exploring different adverts and will think about the persuasive devices (such as alliteration and emotive language) used to make people want to buy a product. We will then think specifically about landmarks and why people should visit. We will also use rhetorical questions to entice the reader such as ‘Have you ever wanted to visit the amazing city of London?’

Reminders

In celebration of World Book Day fast approaching (5th March 2026) we are setting a special creative reading challenge. We would love to see some ‘books in a box!’ We would like the children to create a book or scene from a book inside a small box or jar. You can use any materials to make these, your limit is your imagination! Please bring these into school after half term to show them to everyone so we can celebrate books!

Maths

We are going to continue our work on Multiplication and Division. We will solve multiplication and division sentences in a variety of ways, including arrays and equal groups. We will practise counting in 2, 3, 5 and 10 to help us solve these problems and then will move on to solving word problems involving multiplication and division, thinking carefully about what methods will help us.

Topic

After half term, we will continuing learning about London, but this time will focus more on the city in the present day. We will also learn about famous landmarks.

In Art, we will be creating our own flowers out of clay! We will use our sketches to help us make our 3D sculptures, thinking carefully about how to add texture and how to join different pieces of clay together.

In PE, we will be starting cricket lessons with ‘Chance to Shine’. We will learn how to bowl, field and how to hold the bat.

In MiniMe Mindfulness this week we focused on yoga and how moving our bodies whilst being mindful of our breath helps lift our mood.
