Year 2 Newsletter – Friday 13th March 2026

March 13, 2026

English

Next week we will be exploring the story of ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes. We will create our own story maps to retell the main events in order and will think about key vocabulary used in the text. We will then move on to writing our own Dogger story. We will use adjectives to describe characters and will think about effective story language.

Last Day of Term – Friday 27th March 2026 1:15pm finish

Maths

We will be consolidating our learning of multiplication and division. We will have great fun creating our own ‘array’ cities. We will also be going on a multiplication and division hunt outside, matching number sentences to the correct answers. Towards the end of the week the children will be the teachers and will carry out an investigation ‘marking’ calculations to see if they are correct. If they are incorrect they will have to prove how they know by showing their own written methods.

Topic

In Topic next week we are going to be taking part in a fun ‘digital music’ workshop. We will use Chrome Books with wires to create digital keyboards.

In History we will be learning about The Royal Family. We will find out about key members and their role. We will also look at a simple family tree to show the relationship between different monarchs.

We will also be celebrating Red Nose Day! We will learn about the importance of charity and helping others less fortunate than ourselves.

This week in MiniMe Mindfulness with Abbey we learnt about how using our senses brings our thoughts back to the present moment. We thought about how doing this can help to reduce stress (when our thoughts wander into the past) and anxiety (when our thoughts wander into the future).

Homework

This week please complete Spring Term Workout 8 on pages 40 and 41. Please only complete this workout and do not rush ahead. Thank you!

Homework books are to be handed in on a Wednesday ready to be marked and returned to you by Friday.
