Year 2 Newsletter – Friday 19th June 2026

June 19, 2026

English

Next week we will be writing non-fiction texts all about pirates! We will write statements to explain what a pirate is, what jobs they had on board a ship and we will include sentences about famous pirates from history. We will also include labelled diagrams and captions to add extra information for the reader.

Maths

We will be having a problem solving week! We will be working through lots of different challenges from different areas of learning that we have covered so far this year. This will include addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, shape, time, fractions and lots more! We will work both independently and in teams to solve questions and will use strategies such as RUCSAC to help us. RUCSAC is as follows: R: Read the question carefully. U: Understand what the question is asking. C: Choose the correct method. S: Solve the problem. A: Answer the problem. C: Check your answer.

Topic

In Science we will be learning about food chains. We will learn about the roles of different animals within their food chain and we will find out about how these animals get their food.

We will also be doing some follow up work about our school trip to The Wilderness Foundation.

In History we will be learning more about famous pirates such as Grace O’Malley.

We will continue to practise our amazing songs ready for our special leaver’s assembly!

This week in MiniMe Mindfulness with Abbey, we went outside as it was Green Day! We reminded ourselves how we can release our endorphins – otherwise known as the Happy Dolphins. We thought about how moving our body helps us to reduce stress and anxiety and increase happiness.
