Year 2 Newsletter – Friday 5th June 2026

June 5, 2026

English

In English next week we will be focusing our work on the book series The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. We will focus on The Lighthouse Keeper’s Catastrophe and will read the story, getting to know the main characters and the setting. We will describe these using adjectives, the power of three and similes and will put our amazing ideas into beautifully presented sentences. Next week we will be adapting the story and planning and writing our own catastrophes for the lighthouse keeper.

Maths

In Maths we will be learning about time. We will be thinking more about half past and quarter to/past times. We will be reading and showing these times on a clock and recording these independently. As a challenge, we will put this into practise by solving problems involving the passing of time. If your child has a watch at home and would like to wear this to school to help them develop their time telling skills then please feel free to do so!

Topic

In History we will be learning about famous pirates throughout history, starting with Blackbeard. We will research him and find out why he was the most feared pirate of all!

In Science we will be identifying why exercise is important for our body and mind. We will record the benefits of exercise and think of ways to keep active.

In PSHE we will be talking about older people in our lives who we respect and will be discussing why these people are important to us.

In MiniMe Mindfulness with Abbey this week, we learnt about what good posture looks like and the benefits it brings, such as confidence and self-esteem.
